Zion Baptist Church, April?s SPOTLIGHT centers around the theme of Youth Change-Makers. Join us as we highlight some of our incredible students and recent grads from across the Valley who bring their innovative mindsets to the forefront and use their abilities, interests, and passions to make a positive impact in their local community.
Abigail is a senior student at the University of Scranton pursuing a degree in Marketing. A native of Lackawanna County, Abigail served in multiple positions in her college career, including a Design Team member of Wilkes-Barre Connect, a marketing consultant at the Small Business Development Center, and as a communications intern and the Executive Assistant to Scranton Mayor Paige Gebhardt Cognetti. Abigail?s expertise in the communications and marketing motivated her to promote and encourage young voters to participate in the 2020 Primary and General elections, with an emphasis on civic engagement, regardless of party affiliation. After completing her education at the University of Scranton, Abigail will join Guidehouse, a consulting firm headquartered in Washington, D.C., as a Marketing and Corporate Communications Associate.
Chris Davis is one of the owners and co-founders of Electric City Esports, LLC; a marketing and consulting esports agency located near its namesake city, Scranton (The Electric City), Pennsylvania. A native of Northeastern Pennsylvania, Chris attended the Pennsylvania State University, and in 2019 graduated with Magna Cum Laude honors, obtaining a Bachelor?s Degree in Corporate Communication with a Minor in Business. In 2020, Chris founded Electric City Esports with former PSU classmate, Matt Giombetti, with the mission of showing that video games are a force for good; and that anybody, regardless of age, can participate in and benefit from esports. Today, Electric City Esports operates in three primary areas: Esports Consultation, Video Game Streamer Marketing and Esports Events. As an owner, Chris oversees all company operations, using his role to focus on communications and marketing of the company. Chris is a strong advocate of implementing esports at schools and using his business to serve the Northeastern Pennsylvania community and beyond through esports-related events. Chris is on a journey to represent the Northeastern Pennsylvania region - believing esports can be the next industry to plant its roots in the Valley. Esports is the future of gaming, and Chris is working every day to help clients be a part of the next generation of sports in the country.
Kathrine Ermeus is New Jersey Native and a first-year Political Science student at Wilkes University. Kathrine has been singing since she was young and has grown into her talent. She has not only joined but directed choirs, and is active both in church, her community, and now at her collegiate institutiuon. She has hopes of continuing her studies to law school while still using her talents as she grows to continue to inspire others.
"Our Oceans are full of plastic, we thrift and upcycle clothing and turn them into custom STW T-shirts where 50% of the profits go to small NFP raising money for our Oceans." Says Josh Snell, founder of SAVE THE WAVE. Prepandemic, Josh travels the coast and spreads his message in his bus that he converted to live in. So far he has raised over $30k and influenced thousands of people to be mindful of our Oceans health.
The Spotlight program features quarterly events that provide an opportunity for industry leaders and entrepreneurs in NEPA to meet, discuss and identify potential partnerships. Each event features a fifteen-minute presentation from an entrepreneur with regional ties, as well as video spotlights featuring local entrepreneurs, students, and non-profits.
Spotlight is a Wilkes-Barre Connect program coordinated by the Diamond City Partnership and sponsored by Penn State Wilkes-Barre, through the Invent Penn State initiative.
