Walk for Wellness - Luzerne County Head Start, Inc. (LCHS) will hold its 3 rd annual “Walk for Wellness” event on May 16, 2022 from 1pm-2pm at Kirby Park in Wilkes-Barre. This end of year employee celebration encourages all staff from the nonprofit agency, which covers Luzerne and Wyoming Counties, to gather at the park for a day of relaxation and to celebrate the end of the 2021-2022 program year. LCHS believes that in order to create a culture of health in an early childhood environment, educators and staff must also feel supported and valued in their health and well-being. The goal of this event is to recognize all staff for exceptional performance and encourage, support and reward their professionalism for the job they do. Well-taken care of employees will help our community’s most vulnerable children receive the education and support they need to be successful.

Alumni Scholarship Celebration - Twelve Luzerne County Head Start (LCHS) alumni from six school districts in Luzerne County who will graduate from high school in June and continue their education will be honored at Luzerne County Head Start’s alumni scholarship celebration. The event will take place Mon., May 16 from 4-5pm at LCHS’s Wilkes-Barre center, located at 23 Beekman Street. More than $18,000 in scholarship money is being awarded to these high school seniors. To date, the LCHS alumni scholarship program has provided 318 scholarships to Head Start alumni totaling $311,350.00. The scholarships are provided through private sponsors, including local businesses, organizations and community leaders. Students receiving these scholarships submitted applications and were selected by LCHS’s scholarship committee through a point selection process.
