Service 1st Supports Humanitarian Efforts in Ukraine
(Danville, PA) – Service 1st Federal Credit Union recently donated $25,000 to support two initiatives to help Ukrainian credit unions and Ukrainian citizens affected by the ongoing conflict with Russia.
“Credit unions worldwide were built on the fundamental belief of people helping people,” said Bill Lavage, President/CEO, Service 1st. “During times like this, we are reminded how important it is to work together to bring about positive change and assist those in need. These combined efforts will help bring both short and long term relief to the people of Ukraine.”
Service 1st donated $20,000 to the Ukrainian Credit Union Displacement Fund established by the Worldwide Foundation for Credit Unions. This fund will support Ukraine’s credit union system, those it serves and citizens in need. Service 1st’s donation was matched by Vizo Financial. Vizo Financial is a state-chartered corporate credit union that serves credit union service organizations, leagues, chapters and more than 1,200 credit unions in the United States and Canada. To date, the Ukrainian Credit Union Fund has raised over $500,000.
To help fulfill the medical needs of those affected in both Poland and Ukraine, credit unions are joining together to support a relief account established with Poland’s National Association of Cooperative Savings and Credit Unions. These funds will be used to help purchase two ambulances. Service 1st contributed $5,000 to this ambulance fund. The Polish government will be working directly with Poland’s National Association of Cooperative Savings and Credit Unions to complete the purchase of these vehicles and quickly get them into service.
