Greater Wyoming Valley Area YMCA Gears up for 2021 Giving Tuesday Campaign

NOVEMBER 22, 2021, LUZERNE COUNTY – Whenever our community is faced with a crisis and whenever we see a neighbor who needs support, the Y stands ready to help with open arms.

The COVID-19 pandemic has created an isolation and inactivity crisis for older adults everywhere and seniors in our community need YMCA programs now more than ever. The pandemic has also caused tremendous challenges for parents returning to in-person work, as child care wait lists are longer than they have ever been. Because of the growing mental health crisis facing children following social distancing and virtual learning, kids need programs like YMCA camps where friendships and memories are made.

With your support on GivingTuesday – November 30, 2021 – older adults will gain access to programs that bring them together to forge new friendships; children will be moved off the child care wait list and into classrooms; and kids will be provided with the financial assistance needed to experience summer day and overnight camp.

“Thanks to the generosity of our donors, we are able to provide food for those who are hungry; a safe, nurturing space for kids to learn and grow outside of school; and reach seniors who are feeling isolated,” said Jim Thomas, CEO, Greater Wyoming Valley Area YMCA. “We are so grateful. This GivingTuesday, we are asking for our community’s continued support in allowing us to fulfill our mission and serve those members of our community who are most in need of our services.”

As part of the Greater Wyoming Valley Area YMCA’s fundraising efforts, the non-profit organization is proud to participate in AllOne Charities’ GivingTuesday Match Day initiative. From Thanksgiving through December 1st at 4:00pm, AllOne Charities will match contributions participating organizations raise up to $1,000.
