Chamber of Interns: Meet Ashley

Chamber of Interns: Meet Ashley

During the time at my internship, I've had the pleasure to work with another intern working at Chamber, Ashley Abbey. Rather than summarizing Ashley's interests and responsibilities within the chamber,I thought that I would have her explain these topics herself through a simple interview.

1. What university do they attend and what is the major they study?
  • Wilkes University, My Majors are Marketing and Management with a minor in communications, I am Senior.
2. What prompted you to apply for an internship at Greater Wilkes-Barre Chamber of Commerce over anywhere else?
  • I have an additional Internship at The Allan P. Kirby Center For Free Enterprise and Entrepreneurship where we get to work with the chamber and attend Chamber events, being exposed to the chamber made me interested in the field of economic development and I decided to apply to see a different perspective.
3. What are your responsibilities at your internship at the Chamber?
  • At the Chamber, I work on Wilkes-Barre Connect marketing Material, I also host the Wilkes-Barre Connect Podcast the student edition.
4. What hobbies and interests do you have outside working at the Chamber?
  • I love to travel, for spring break I will be heading to Europe. I also enjoy art, photography, drawing and graphic design.
5. What work-related skills have you gained working thus far at the Greater Wilkes Barre Chamber of Commerce?
  • One of the best skills I learned through my internship is how to network. The chamber offers so many great events that are perfect for students to start building their networks.
6. If you can give some advice to a future intern at the Chamber, what would it be?
  • Attend as many events as you can, not only is it free food and drinks usually but it is a great way the expand your network and can probably help you get a job right out of college.
