Diversity Month Highlight: Erica Acosta

Throughout the month of April for Diversity Month, we will be highlighting some amazing individuals in our community that are spearheading diversity, equity, and inclusion causes and initiatives, as well as business leaders and owners with diverse backgrounds. Next, we spoke to  Erica Acosta, Associate Director of Diversity Initiatives at Wilkes University  and the Vice-Chair of our Chamber Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Council.

Q: I am inspired to be a leader in our community because…

A: It's important to be active in your community because, in order to make change, you need to be a part of the community and listen to what needs to be done. In order to create long lasting change, you need to be a part of the table where the conversions are impacting your community.

Q: I am most excited to accomplish what through my diversity, equity, and inclusion community programming…
A: I am excited to see the change in the students I provide support to as they flourish in their academics and as individuals.

Q: Three words to describe yourself…
A: Silly, Animated and Ray of Sunshine 

Q: My greatest achievement to date is…
A: Being first generation student and getting my second Master Degree (MBA'20)

Q: Five years from now, I will be…
A: I see myself still working in higher education, not sure in what capacity, but, I would like to be the Vice President of Student Affairs one day. 

Q: Best advice you’ve received…
A: Family comes first and work comes second. 

Q: Favorite activity/place in NEPA…
A: I like to eat out at our local restaurants. 

Q: Why NEPA? 
A: NEPA grew in me. I also wanted to go back to Brooklyn, NY, but I like having my own space. I also like that the cost of living is more affordable here.
