From the Intern Desk: Ahmad Ali

Welcome back to our fall blog series, From the Intern Desk! This blog series will continue to feature our current staff members. Our next featured staff member is Ahmad Ali.
Amhad is the Programs and Events Coordinator for the Chamber and has been with the Chamber for almost a year. He is also branching out to Membership Outreach. A fun fact about Ahmad is that he attended Luzerne County Community College and graduated with a degree in Business Administration.
Ahmad’s life at the Chamber began when he was working at Genetti’s and did not see more room for growth. He stays in the mindset for his work that you need to have an uncomfortable feeling because you should not stay in your comfort zone. Lindsay Bezick, the Chief Operating Officer, told Ahmad about the opportunity at the Chamber. The pace was different from his previous job, but it went from a slow to fast pace. This is one aspect that he loves about the job.
Question and Answer Time!
I had the opportunity to sit down with Ahmad and learn more about his life and position here at the Chamber of Commerce.
What has been your most positive experience from working here?
“The most positive experience has been the opportunity to work on things that benefits non-profits and the community. I was not aware of them in the past as I currently am now. It’s cool to see so many organizations that are looking out for the underserved population.”
Can you summarize your typical work day?
“I can’t summarize my typical work day because every day is completely different. Some days have me focused on events. Other days have me going around for meetings for Membership Outreach. It changes every day. You can find me on the road, at my desk, or at the THINK Center preparing for events. We also always have to make sure to slide in Lindsay time for whatever she throws our way.”
What advice would you give a student interested in interning at the Chamber?
“Come in with an open mind and be open to make connections that will help you down the road. You have the opportunity to meet so many people in the community, so take advantage of it. As I like to say, Teamwork makes the dream work!”
What are the other staff members like?
“All the other staff members are fun. Everyone comes in every day passionate about the role they play here. It makes it a fun group to work with here.”
What has been your biggest take-away(s) from working here?
“The biggest take away from working here is more free time to spend with my son, Avery. I have a nice work life balance here at the Chamber. I like that the Chamber allows me to be able to be in different areas depending on my job for the day. Not every day is the same here and I enjoy that fact.”
What do you love the most about working here at the Chamber?
“The people are the reason I love working at the Chamber. I love the people I work with and the family atmosphere we have in the office. I also love that I get to see the people in the community so passionate about their business.”
Interesting Facts Time!
While we were talking, Ahmad also gave me more insight into his life. He likes to watch sports, such as football, baseball, and tennis. He is a big fan of movies, likes to cook, and play fantasy football, baseball, and basketball. This makes the games more interesting to watch for him.
Ahmad has a two-year-old son named Avery and he does anything he can to make life fun for him. Ahmad loves to bike, usually on the dike in Wilkes-Barre at Kirby Park. This year, he took the challenge to bike up the Back Mountain Trail. In the spring, Ahmad wants to take on the DNL trail in Jim Throop.
