From the Intern Desk: Meghan Flanagan

Welcome back to our fall blog series, From the Intern Desk! This blog series will continue to feature our current staff members. Our next featured staff member is Meghan Flanagan.
Meghan is the Communications and Resource Manager at the Chamber and has been with the Chamber for three years. Meghan began life at the Chamber when she interned here during her last year of college. A fun fact about Meghan is that she graduated from Penn State Wilkes-Barre and received a degree in English.
Meghan’s life at the Chamber began when she became interested in learning more about the non-profits in the region. She was not sure about what a Chamber does exactly, but she was eager to learn more about them. As she interned here at the Chamber, Meghan was able to get more involved in the community.
Question and Answer Time!
I had the opportunity to sit down with Meghan and learn more about her life and position here at the Chamber of Commerce.
What has been your most positive experience from working here?
“The most positive experience has been meeting and networking with so many community leaders, who are making the area a better place. I have the opportunity to help out and volunteer at local non-profits. I get to help them better our community along the way.”
Can you summarize your typical work day?
“The interesting thing about working at a chamber is that the day is different every time I come into the office. It can be a meeting one day or sitting down to discuss events. I also have the opportunity to work with and coordinate with our amazing team of interns.”
What advice would you give a student interested in interning at the Chamber?
“Interning at the chamber is a great way to get involved in many things. You have the opportunity to grow and develop in many areas.”
What are the other staff members like?
“We are a small staff, we are all close-knit, collaborative function, like a small family. That is the best way to sum up our amazing staff members.”
What has been your biggest take-away(s) from working here?
“The biggest takeaway for me is the value in partnerships. We have different individuals or organizations through the Chamber that we continually communicate with through events and meetings. All this cohesion makes our organizations and region a stronger place.”
What do you love the most about working here at the Chamber?
“I love that this is the most team orientated environment to work in. Everyone is always there for each other and ready to jump in and help you. We all work together to come up with ideas and continually find ways to innovate together.”
Interesting Facts Time!
While we were talking, Meghan also gave me more insight into her life. She loves reading, hiking, and the outdoors. She also loves traveling as much as she can and Meghan’s favorite place is Keuka Lake in New York, where two of her extended family members live.
Meghan is also an active committee member in the NEPA Rainbow Alliance, Victim’s Resource Center, Leadership Wilkes-Barre, Northeast Sight Services, Osterhout Library, Women’s Resource Center, United Way of Wyoming Valley, and the Pittston Tomato Festival.
In her free time, Meghan loves to travel with her father and sister. She went to Rhode Island and Chicago for the first time. Meghan and her family try to go to one new place every year.
