(Intern)al Affairs - Meet Sarah Matarella
In my last "Meet the Intern" installment, you’ll get to know Sarah Matarella! Sarah, Caitlin and I are stationed in the Chamber so we all work together on most projects. Without further ado, here’s Sarah!
Where do you go to school and what are you studying?
I go to Wilkes University and I am a Communication Studies major with a Psychology minor.
What is your intern position at the Chamber?
I’m the Member Retention Intern for the summer!
What does a typical day at the Chamber look like for you?
A typical day at the Chamber for me consists of coming in, heading to my desk and picking up my work where I left off on the last day I came in. So far, I have done some research on other Chambers’ websites and membership efforts, redesigned the outside covers and contents of the membership binder and recruited some new businesses for the Chamber’s annual Christmas in July Event. I typically meet with Ben or Ahmad at least once per day to touch base on my progress with projects.
What is your favorite part of this internship?
I genuinely enjoy the working atmosphere and all of the people who are a part of the Chamber. They are all extremely genuine and charismatic. In addition, I am constantly learning more about the Greater Wilkes-Barre area. I have lived here for over three years at Wilkes University and I’ve learned more about the community in the few months I’ve been at the Chamber than ever before. Finally, my favorite part is also the networking I have been able to do and the professional relationships that I have been able to build.
What are some of your other interests and hobbies?
I enjoy cooking, being outside (whether it's tanning or just hanging out), working out, doing yoga, and dancing as I have been a dancer since I was three years old. I love staying busy, so I also enjoy being super involved at Wilkes during and outside of the school year. I’ve also always wanted to start my own YouTube Channel or podcast.
What are your goals for after graduation?
As of right now, my goal is to get an entry-level position in the communications field in human resources, digital media, editing, etc. while I further my education online. I plan to either further my education by getting a master’s degree in communication studies or in psychology with an emphasis in life coaching. My dream job is to ultimately become a life coach or success coach and the CEO of my own company.
