Introducing Cassandra Coleman, our 2025 Community Champion Award recipient!

In September 2019, the Pennsylvania Commission for the United States Semiquincentennial (America250PA) appointed Cassandra Coleman as Executive Director of the America250PA initiative, making her the longest-serving state 250th Executive Director in the nation. In this role, she leads Pennsylvania's efforts to commemorate the United States Semiquincentennial while engaging communities across the Commonwealth.

Prior to her appointment, Cassandra served as Special Advisor to Governor Tom Wolf and Director of Governor Wolf's Northeast and Central offices. In that role, she was responsible for intergovernmental and constituency services on behalf of the Governor across 28 counties. Earlier, she founded Coleman & Associates, a company engaged in charitable, private, and political creation of fundraising networks and community and political event planning, serving state, county, and local political candidates, businesses, and nonprofit organizations.

Cassandra has spent a lifetime in public service beginning at a very young age. At the age of 20, she was appointed Mayor of her hometown of Exeter Borough to fill her late grandfather Mayor Joseph Coyne's unexpired term. Following her appointment, she was elected to two full terms, becoming one of the youngest female mayors in the history of the United States.

Her leadership and service have earned recognition at the local, state, and national levels. Cassandra was featured in O, The Oprah Magazine in a segment titled "Women Who Defy Age" and in NBC's national feature "The Smart Woman." She has been recognized as a Times Leader Top 40 Under 40 recipient and one of its Distinctive Women, named one of the Northeast Pennsylvania Business Journal's Top 25 Women in Business, recognized by City & State PA as a 40 Under 40 honoree and Impact Award recipient, and received the Young Professional Women's Leadership Award from Athena International.

Cassandra continues to give back to the community through service on the boards of King's College, where she chairs the Red & Gold Gala Committee, Leadership Northeast, and the Junior League of Wilkes-Barre. She previously served as President of the Wyoming Area Foundation. A graduate of King's College, she received the institution's Leo Award in 2018 and returned in 2026 as Commencement Speaker, where she also received an honorary Doctor of Humanities for her work in public service. She also created a scholarship at Wyoming Area High School in honor of her grandfather for graduating seniors pursuing careers in public administration or government.

A lifelong public servant and proud resident of Exeter, Cassandra continues to champion civic engagement, community leadership, and opportunities that strengthen communities across Pennsylvania.
