For more than 160 years, the Children’s Service Center has served the children, adolescents, and their families of the Greater Wyoming Valley, ensuring them access to quality behavioral, mental, and physical health services.

Founded in 1862, the Children’s Service Center was initially created as a home for children displaced by the Civil War. Since then, the organization has developed into a multi-site agency that connects with people in office, school, and home settings to improve their daily lives. In 2024 alone, the CSC served 15,000 people with 25 programs, provided regardless of background, social, and financial status.

CSC strives to nurture and support children and adolescents with care designed to remove or minimize barriers to their growth and development. They are present in 15 school districts (including 30 buildings) to engage students, facilitate educational progress, deliver therapy and crisis support, and intervene with barriers to student success.

The organization expanded to also serve adults with the creation of the Robinson Counseling Center in 2010, along with integrated primary care in 2022, helping to facilitate a more comprehensive approach to addressing both mental and physical health challenges within families. The organization as a whole has served more adults than children since 2022, helping individuals with support through a life crisis, parenting skills, household management, substance abuse recovery, and more.

While the organization is based out of Wilkes-Barre, the CSC’s services are provided throughout Northeastern Pennsylvania, which is supported through partnerships with other organizations, and through keeping an active presence in community events and activities.
