Introducing Jocelyn Sterenchock, our 2025 Community Transformation Award recipient!
Jocelyn Sterenchock is a catalyst for transformational change in Greater Hazleton and Luzerne County. She has dedicated her career to fostering economic growth, supporting entrepreneurship, and improving the quality of life for the Greater Hazleton area that she proudly calls home.
Jocelyn is the Director of Economic Development for CAN DO, Inc., an economic development agency in Hazleton. In this role, she plays a pivotal role in advancing the organization’s mission to create and retain a full range of employment opportunities across the region. Her work spans areas such as real estate & industry recruitment, business financing & entrepreneurship, workforce development, downtown development, and marketing & community relations.
After graduating from McCann School of Business and Technology and Central Penn College, Jocelyn returned to the Hazleton area and found herself drawn to nonprofit and community and economic development. Since joining CAN DO in 2017, she has worked towards launching projects including the rebranding of the organization, the renovation of the CAN BE Innovation Center, and launching the Downtown Hazleton’s Kitchen Incubator and The Hazleton Innovation Collaborative (THInC). Additionally, she is active in the community through serving on numerous boards and mentoring emerging leaders and innovators, including serving as a coach for the tecBRIDGE High School Business Plan Competition.
Recently, Jocelyn worked towards securing a partnership with Johnson College to establish their first-ever satellite campus at the CAN DO Training Center, opening doors and reducing barriers of entry for local residents in the Hazleton area to access technical training that aligns directly with the region’s employment and workforce needs.
Her work has also reached across Luzerne County, including serving as a key liaison for the Luzerne County Hospitality Business Grant Fund, which helped to provide financial relief for hundreds of businesses; and co-leading the implementation of the business accelerator program, TechCelerator @ Luzerne County, which helped seven early-stage businesses develop their entrepreneurial ventures.
A Georgia native turned NEPA transplant, Jocelyn – who lives in Drums with her wife, Megan – is inspired by the region’s resilience, potential, and sense of community. You can read more about her in her DiscoverNEPA feature here.
Make sure to join us to celebrate with her and all our award recipients on Friday, July 11th at our first ever STARS of the Valley Awards at the Westmoreland Club’s Grand Hall!
