Meet Our 2024 Lifetime Achievement Award Recipient : Tony Brooks!


Anthony T.P. “Tony” Brooks has been a leader in historic preservation and the promotion of local history for the past 20 years.

As executive director of the Wilkes-Barré Preservation Society, he led the effort to save and restore the 1793 Zebulon Butler House, the oldest house in Wilkes-Barre. A three-term member of Wilkes-Barre City Council, he introduced an Historic Preservation Ordinance earning unanimous support from his colleagues.

Active in the community, Brooks currently serves as chairman, WVIA’s Community Advisory Board; president, University of Pennsylvania NEPA Alumni Club; board member, Luzerne County Convention & Visitor Bureau, Luzerne County Arts & Entertainment Hall of Fame, Wyoming Valley Art League, Hollenback Cemetery Association, Nesbitt Family Charitable Foundation, Osterhout Free Library, Wyoming Commemorative Association, Anthracite Heritage Foundation, Forty Fort Meeting House Preservation Committee, Wilkes-Barre Law & Library Association, Diamond City Partnership, Little Theatre of Wilkes-Barre, Family Services Association and Kirby Health Center. He is past president of the St. David’s Society of Wyoming Valley and former board member of the Luzerne County Historical Society, the Historical Marker Review Committee of the Pennsylvania Historic and Museum Commission and served our country with the 104th Cavalry, Pennsylvania Army National Guard.

Brooks is a 40 year-plus member of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Wilkes-Barre where he serves as Verger and is a member of Lodge No. 61, F&AM. He is a recipient of the Daughters of the American Revolution Medal for Patriotism.
