Meet Our 2024 Pride of Place Honorees: Frank M. and Dorothea Henry Cancer Center, Building Blocks Learning Center, and Clubhouse315!
Frank M. and Dorothea Henry Cancer Center at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center
“The Frank M. and Dorothea Henry Cancer Center expansion was designed so patients never have to leave the area for exceptional care. Building on the vision the Henry family and their partners on the Geisinger board set out with more than 30 years ago, the project doubled our capacity for infusion services, bringing us to 51 bays for chemotherapy and intravenous treatment. It added an 18-bed inpatient unit for treatment of complex cancer diagnoses, and it provided patient and employee-focused amenities like our healthy Goodness Bar and the Hydra Health gift shop, a boutique designed to support the care journey of cancer patients and provide them with specialty products tailored toward their needs in treatment and recovery. The facility and its capabilities offer our care teams an environment commensurate with the compassionate, high-quality care they deliver every day in the advanced cancer programs we’ve developed over the last three decades.
Together with our design and build partners, FCA and Alvin H. Butz, we succeeded in creating a cancer center interior, hospital façade and new main lobby that usher Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center into the modern age of healthcare architecture while paying tribute to the scenic natural features of our home region. The facility features sweeping views of the valley, our campus’ beautiful, wooded 200-acre tract, and our healing garden, which provides a quiet respite place for our patients, families and staff. The lobby and public spaces were designed to evoke the beautiful landscapes that surround us in Northeastern Pennsylvania. This project was a big step forward in Geisinger Wyoming Valley’s growth as a major academic medical center that fosters a welcoming and healing environment.” - Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center

“Building Blocks Learning Center is honored to be among the recipients for the 2024 Pride of Place Award. Thank you to the Greater Wyoming Valley Chamber of Commerce for this honor.
It was our vision to create a beautiful, engaging, and joyful center in the heart of downtown Wilkes-Barre that serves the children of our region. We know that our most important learning happens in our earliest years. We also know that these building-block years are critical to putting children on the path to happy and successful lives. That is why we want to extend our deepest gratitude to the talented and dedicated Building Blocks educators and staff members who make the biggest impact on little lives.
This award is evidence that the impact of Building Blocks goes far beyond the children we teach and the families we serve. We are a neighbor with a vested interest in our community. We are a source of good, an economic driver, and a revitalization partner. We aim to create jobs and increase foot traffic, the kind that can help neighboring businesses grow. It is our goal to help make our community a wonderful place to live, full of the young, vibrant, and curious.
Our newest home in the South Main Street Arts District is a source of pride for our entire organization. Thank you for considering it yours as well.” - Building Blocks Learning Center
Clubhouse315
“Thank you, Greater Wyoming Valley Chamber of Commerce, for this esteemed Pride of Place award. I'm honored to be recognized among such distinguished colleagues. I'd like to extend my deepest gratitude to our incredible team, whose tireless efforts have transformed our community's landscape. Without you, the vision I had for Clubhouse315 would never have been able to come to fruition. Your dedication and passion are the true embodiment of this award.
To my partners and local leaders, your unwavering support has been invaluable. Together, we've created a vibrant space that will foster growth, connection, and pride in our community. I’d like to thank my wife for her constant belief, not only in me, but in the projects I pursue, no matter how difficult they may seem. Her ability to guide my creative energy into a central focus, all while running her own successful business, carrying our soon to be daughter and supporting me, is something I’m forever grateful for. To my friends and family, thank you for being there when I needed you the most. I appreciate you more than you’ll ever know.
This award serves as a testament to the power of collaboration and visionary leadership. We’re proud to contribute to the Wyoming Valley's revitalization and commit to its continued innovation. Thank you again for this recognition. I’m humbled and inspired to continue enhancing our community's beauty and prosperity for years to come.” - Lorenzo Medico, Founder of Clubhouse315
