Meet Our Chamber Ambassador: Jessica Battista!
We sat down virtually with one of our longtime Chamber Ambassadors, Jessica Battista to learn a little bit more about her work in the community. In her professional life, Jess is Sales Executive FASTSIGNS of Wilkes-Barre. We got to ask Jess a few questions about her favorite things about her job, being an Ambassador, and our community for you to get to know her better - read more below!
Q: What do you do in your current professional role, and what is your favorite thing about your job?
A: I am currently a salesperson. But honestly, I do a bit of everything. Some production, a bit a graphic design, a receptionist, and installs when needed. I can't put a finger on my favorite thing; every day is usually pretty fun and exciting. I never do the same thing daily. I am always meeting new clients and on the road for sales appointments and some days I don't leave my desk when I am project managing or getting caught up with paperwork. But I would say one of my favorite things has been the opportunity to travel across the country for training/events. I have been to Anaheim, CA; Arlington, TX twice; and St. Louis, MI twice. I have made some great friends throughout FASTSIGNS. When I am struggling with a project/idea, it is nice to have a team behind me here at our center and also other FASTSIGNS colleagues across the US to help me brainstorm and come up with an awesome signage solution to meet my customer needs. Next month (May) I will be at FASTSIGNS for 10 years! A decade of my life dedicated to helping clients achieve visual communication goals. I couldn't be happier to be part of such a great company.
Q: What causes/organizations are you involved with in the community?
A: I am currently an Ambassador for the Chamber. I am a member of the Greater Wyoming Valley Elevate Young Professionals Network. FASTSIGNS is also a member of the Pittston, Back Mountain, and Hazleton Chambers of Commerce and I personally attend most of their events. I recently found a local animal shelter "Animal Resource Center" in Millville where I adopted a kitten for Christmas and donated blankets, food, etc. I am a huge animal rights advocate & animal lover. You can also find me "celebrity bartending" every year for the Chamber's Young Professionals Awards. The money raised in tips is donated to a local non-profit. I am also a member of the Say YES! (Young Executives for Success) group for Dress for Success of Luzerne County, where I help organize and volunteer at events for the organization. I also wrap presents for Valley Santa every Christmas. I really enjoy volunteering my time when I can.
Q: What is your favorite thing about the Wyoming Valley and how do you like to spend your spare time?
A: I have lived in the Wyoming Valley my entire life. My favorite thing is the amount it has grown and developed. There is so much to do. Penguins hockey games, tons of great restaurants, concert venues, wineries, ski resorts, shopping. It's all right here!
Q: Why did you choose to get involved in the Chamber Ambassador Council and what are you most looking forward to?
A: A few years ago when the Ambassador group started, a friend of mine that worked at the chamber at the time reached out to me and asked if I wanted to come to a meeting. I didn't really know what it was about but I came to support her. I decided to give it a shot and I have been here since! Overall, it has been a great experience. I have made so many great friends and connections. I have grown myself both personally and professionally since becoming more involved with this group and the GWV Chamber in general. I look forward to continuing growing in the community and when in-person meetings start up, I look forward to helping plan more events and promoting them.
Q: Tell us a little bit about you!
A: I recently married my best friend (Mike) on October 24, 2020. I have an almost 11 year old step daughter, Isabella. The two of them are the light of my life, along with my 138 pound Newfoundland dog, Luna! Like I said previously, I am a huge animal lover. I also have 2 cats. I am an off road enthusiast. I have a purple Jeep Wrangler that I travel to shows with and take it offroad. I also enjoy riding dirt bikes. I like to travel, but I also enjoy just being home, gardening, and spending time updating our home we purchased 2 years ago.
