Meet Our Chamber Ambassador Lee Sorber!

We sat down with our Chamber Ambassador Council member, Lee Sorber, Chief Business Development Officer at the Cross Valley Federal Credit Union in this edition's Chamber Ambassador Spotlight

Read the full Q&A with Lee below to learn even more about him!

Q: What do you do in your current professional role, and what is your favorite thing about your job?

A: I wear many different hats at the Credit Union, like a lot of my Colleagues, but one of my favorite responsibilities is signing businesses up as Select Employee Groups.  This is absolutely free and it extends eligibility to their employees to take advantage of EPIC (Employee Perks and Incentives Cooperative).  We consider EPIC to be an addition to the employers benefits package.  EPIC contains free perks and services like a free a accidental death and dismemberment insurance policy, free financial counseling, free notary and medallion services and special discounts through a program called Tickets at Work, just to name a few.  It really is an easy sell because EPIC is also free and there are no obligations for the Select Employee Groups to do any business banking with the credit union at all.  It’s truly about the employees.

Q: What causes/organizations are you involved with in the community?

A: I sit on the Family Selection Committee for Wyoming Valley Habitat for Humanity.  I recently became involved with an initiative to revitalize a small community down the Susquehanna called Shickshinny Forward.  I’m a volunteer on the maintenance crew for the Susquehanna Warrior Trail and I run the Advisory Committee at the credit union which is designed to keep a pulse on the community and recommend products to provide financial services and support that is needed right here in the Valley

Q: What is your favorite thing about the Wyoming Valley?

A: If I have to narrow this down to one, it would have to be the food.  Yes, we have a lot of great chain restaurants in the area but to get a true taste of the Valley, you need to visit the home grown, mom and pop establishments.  The food is fantastic!

Q: Why did you choose to get involved in the Chamber Ambassador Council?

A: This is actually a funny story.  A Colleague of mine decided to sign me up for every Council available at the Chamber.  My calendar immediately filled up with meeting invites.  This is when I realized how involved our Chamber is in the community and the businesses within it.  While I would love to be on every Council, I do actually have to work for the Credit Union.  I ultimately choose the Ambassador Council as my place in the Chamber.

Q: What are you most looking forward to about being a part of the Council?

A: I enjoy going to the ribbon cuttings.  I love to meet the new businesses coming to our area and representing the Chamber.  The Ambassadors Council and the team at the Chamber do a great job of explaining the benefits of belonging and promoting the businesses.
