Meet Shanie, Wilkes-Barre Connect's New Economic Development Specialist
We are so excited to introduce our brand new team member, Shanie Mohamed?! As Wilkes-Barre Connect's new Economic Development Specialist, Shanie will be helping to carry-out our core Wilkes-Barre Connect programming and branding in 2020, and working directly with Connect clients and partners to launch and enhance special projects in the areas of workforce, transportation, financial literacy, social innovation, and entrepreneurial development. Growing up in a small business family, Shanie has been working for her family’s trucking company for about 8 years, gaining experience in supply chain and logistics, dispatching, and business management. Shanie graduated from Penn State Scranton in December 2019. During her time in college, she was heavily involved in Student Government, peer mentoring, undergraduate research, and a variety of internships. She interned at the Scranton Launchbox in Spring 2019, then served as a Social Media Management intern at Coal Creative in the Fall semester afterwards.

Q: Why Greater Wilkes-Barre?
A: As I was interning at Coal Creative, I came to realize what great opportunities can be found here in NEPA. After meeting a lot of incredible people and becoming more involved in the community’s events, I knew Greater Wilkes-Barre was a place with great potential and unwavering support, both personally and professionally.
Q: What’s your favorite local activity/hidden gem?
A: NEPA Creative meetups – I’ve met so many talented and inspirational creatives!
Q: What are some of your favorite local stops?
A: Nucleus Raw Foods –“grateful for you!”
Q: What hobbies do you enjoy?
A: Traveling, reading, sketching, exercising, and spending time with family
Q: What’s a fun fact about yourself?
A: I am Indo-Caribbean American – I am the first generation of my family to be born in America. My immediate family was born in Guyana, and my ancestors are ultimately from India. I am very proud of my culture.
Q: What is your go-to movie? Your go-to artist?
A: Any of the Rush Hour movies and Lana Del Rey.
Q: What is the last thing you watched on Netflix?
A: Locke & Key
Q: What are 3 words you would use to describe yourself?
A: Ambitious, Leader, Fashion-minded
Q: What inspires you?
A: I am consistently inspired by people, design, and entrepreneurship. My family played a big role in teaching me that success is unlimited, so they are ultimately my biggest inspiration.
