Meet the 2019 Athena® Award Recipient: Tara Mugford Wilson
Tara Mugford Wilson, President
Power Engineering Corporation
Tara Mugford Wilson joined the family business, Power Engineering Corporation (PEC), as Special Projects manager in 1992. PEC, which opened in 1922, is a commercial/industrial mechanical, HVAC (heating, ventilating and air conditioning), plumbing and service company doing business throughout the mid-Atlantic states. In 1993, Ms. Wilson acquired Power Mechanical Corporation (PMC), a union sheet metal and mechanical pipefitting business. Under Wilson’s leadership, PMC was able to attain Certified Women Business Enterprise (WBE) status in Pennsylvania. She also retooled PMC’s fabrication facility with state-of-the-art fully automated fabrication equipment while continuing to grow the company’s capabilities and annual sales.
As a signatory contractor to Sheet metal Workers Local 44 and Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 524 she served in a trustee role for all the funds at both locals. She was President of the Sheet metal Contractors Association of NEPA for 6 years and served on the board of the Sheet metal Contractors of PA. She was a regular member of the negotiating committees both on the local and national level.
Ms. Wilson sold Power Mechanical in 2015 and took the position of President of Power Engineering Corporation in January 2016. Ms. Wilson’s current responsibilities include overseeing the company’s direction, relationship management, sales and workforce as well as overseeing all facets of the project management team including estimating, job cost analysis, budgets, scheduling and purchasing.
A committed leader in the local community, Ms. Wilson is currently Co-chair of the United Way Campaign as well as a Board Member, past and current Chair of the Greater Wilkes-Barre Development Corporation Board, member of the Greater Wilkes-Barre Chamber of Business and Industry/Growth Partnership Board, Appleseed Foundation, Geisinger Wilkes-Barre Advisory Board, Circle 200, Luzerne Foundation, The Institute for Economic Development and Public Policy, and is a past member of the Penn State Wilkes-Barre Board, Diocese of Scranton Catholic Social Services Board and American Cancer Society of NEPA.
A Dallas, PA native, Ms. Wilson is a graduate of Wyoming Seminary and Drexel University with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. Ms. Wilson currently resides in Dallas, PA with her children Robert and Alexandra, and companion, Dan Petrishin.
