Dr. Vijayaraman joined Geisinger in 2005 to serve as our region’s first fellowship trained electrophysiology specialist. Since then, his unsurpassed clinical skills and compassionate nature have improved the lives of thousands of people affected by heart rhythm disorders. The great majority of Dr. Vijayaraman’s patients are Northeast Pennsylvania residents, but many are people who travel significant distances to come to Wilkes-Barre specifically seeking his care.
 
Thanks to Dr. Vijayaraman’s commitment, vision and leadership, Geisinger Wyoming Valley has become a destination for heart rhythm care, and Geisinger’s Cardiac Electrophysiology program has emerged as a true leader in its field, earning national and international recognition for quality and innovation along the way. His presence directly influenced Geisinger’s decision to invest in an $8.7 million Electrophysiology Suite at Geisinger Wyoming Valley, which allows us to provide virtually every advancement in cardiac electrophysiology to patients in our region. He was also instrumental in developing and is now the director of Geisinger’s Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology Fellowship, which boasts over 10 graduates, several of whom are now emerging as leaders in their field, as well.
 
Dr. Vijayaraman has a long history of research, innovation and education. Most recently, Dr. Vijayaraman and his team have become authorities on “HIS bundle pacing” – a technique he has evolved to produce a more natural heart rhythm, longer lasting results and a reduced rate of heart failure for more than 500 of his patients. In fact, other physicians from throughout the U.S. and the world – including China and Japan – have visited the Pearsall Heart Hospital at Geisinger Wyoming Valley for his personal instruction on this innovative technique.  Through Dr. Vijayraman’s leadership, Wilkes-Barre has become the focus of technology which is rapidly becoming a standard of care worldwide.
