MEET THE INTERN - JOHANN MALKEMESON

MEET THE INTERN - JOHANN MALKEMESON

While I didn't get to actually sit down with Wilkes-Barre Connect intern Johann Malkemeson, we were able to set up an electronic interview, where I got to learn more about him and his experiences! Johann already has one degree in hand and is working towards a Master’s. Although this type of interview is challenging, I looked forward to hearing his answers. A huge thank you to Johann for giving his time to me!

Q: What is your name? Where did you attend college and what is your major?
A: My name is Johann Malkemeson. I went to Penn State for my undergraduate degree in Psychology. Currently, I am attending Misericordia University working towards a Master’s degree in Organizational Management.

Q: What do you like to do in your spare time? (other interesting facts)
A: I like to work out, read, and hang out with my friends. We like to spend our time outside being active (playing sports, hiking, etc.)

Q: Do you have another job? Are you involved in any other organizations?
A: Currently, I am not involved in any other organizations. At Penn State, I was involved with THON and my fraternity. I do spend some of my time looking for future internships and jobs.

Q: What brought you to the Greater Wilkes-Barre Chamber of Commerce?
A: I was recommended to Wilkes-Barre Connect by Misericordia’s career center. After looking into what Joe does here I thought it would be a great place to learn and do meaningful work.

Q: What does a typical day look like for you at the Chamber?
A: Right now, I am doing a lot of researching and preparation for a client’s pitch deck. Other than that, whatever Joe tells us to do.

Q: One word to describe your experience?
A: “Mind-opening.”

Q: What are your goals after graduation?
A: I want to pursue a career in business consulting.

Q: Any tips for others who might be thinking about the internship?
A: Definitely apply even if you think the internship may not align with your exact goals. The internship is not set in stone and is adjusted to what your interests and goals are. Plus, it is a great networking opportunity.
