Meet the Top 3 2019 Young Professionals Awards Category Finalists for Intern of the Year

Anthony Nardell: Environmental Health Safety and Engineering Intern at  InterMetro Industries Corporation
Anthony Nardell grew up in the Greater Wyoming Valley area and attended grade school and high school at Wyoming. Currently, he is a Chemical Engineering student at Villanova University with a minor in Biochemical Engineering, and is enrolled in a program to obtain both a Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering and a Master's degrees in Chemical and Biochemical Engineering. His extracurricular activities include participation in multiple clubs and societies such as NOVAdance (cancer fundraising), intramural sports, the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, and political discussion. In addition, he works part time as one of Villanova’s Intramural Referees. 

His work experience thus far includes serving as a summer intern for the Engineering and Environmental, Health & Safety departments at InterMetro Industries, where some of his activities included process improvement activities, process capability studies, examining powder coating/ finishing from a chemical engineering perspective, job safety analysis resulting in risk mitigation and quality assurance initiatives. His overall  goal is to grow into an enthusiastic and impactful young leader in the engineering world who makes his mark by positively impacting others.

Richard Supkowski: Mechanical Designer Intern at Borton-Lawson
Richard Supkowski is currently a student at Wilkes University where he will be receiving his degree in Mechanical Engineering with minors in Engineering Management and Physics in the Spring of 2020. Previously, he has worked at MTF Biologics in Jessup as a Process Engineer and is currently employed with Borton-Lawson as a Mechanical Engineering Intern. The past few months Rich has focused on Facility Management, Mechanical HVAC design, the Commissioning Process, and learning the Revit application assisting in Architectural drafting. Rich enjoys spending time with family, traveling with his girlfriend, Dominique Chirico, kayaking, and hiking.


Sarah Matarella: Kirby Scholar of Communication at the Allan P. Kirby Center for Free Enterprise & Entrepreneurship (APKCFEE)
Sarah Matarella is a senior at Wilkes University with a communication studies major and a psychology minor. Sarah has had three internships at Socialocca, the Greater Wilkes-Barre Chamber of Commerce and the Allan P. Kirby Center for Free Enterprise & Entrepreneurship and maintained a 3.91 GPA throughout the 2018-2019 academic year. During this time as well, Sarah has been a first-year student mentor, editor for Wilkes' newspaper, vice president of the student-run public relations agency and captain of the Wilkes dance team. Sarah will be graduating in 2020 with the goal of furthering her education in psychology with an emphasis in life coaching. In her free time, she enjoys going to the gym, doing yoga, watching YouTube, being outside and doing anything creative.
