Meet this year's Legacy Business of the Year award recipient, McCarthy Tire Service Company!
For 100 years, McCarthy Tire Service has been much more than a tire and service company, it has been a family, built one generation at a time. Founded by Joseph J. McCarthy in 1926 in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, the company grew under the leadership of his son, Jack McCarthy Sr., who helped transform a single-store operation into a growing regional business while never losing sight of the importance of customers and teammates. Jack’s son, John McCarthy Jr., daughter, Katie McCarthy Lambert, and son-in-law, Neil Horn carried that legacy into the third generation. John took on the role of president in 1997 and led the company through decades of significant growth, Katie served as CFO and helped guide the financial strength and direction of the business while Neil oversaw the company’s manufacturing operations and facilities. As they celebrate 100 years, that same family commitment continues into the fourth generation. McCarthy Tire is the fourth-largest independent commercial tire dealer in the United States, with more than 80 locations across nine states and over 1,500 dedicated teammates. Yet, despite its growth over the past century, they remain grounded in the values Joe McCarthy established in 1926: taking care of people, building lasting relationships, and keeping our customers moving.
What makes this 100-year milestone so meaningful is not simply that McCarthy Tire has survived for a century, but that it has remained a family business through four generations. Joe McCarthy’s dream, Jack McCarthy’s leadership, John, Katie and Neil’s dedication helped create the foundation that today’s generation has the privilege and responsibility to carry forward. Along the way, generations of teammates have become part of the McCarthy family, and generations of customers have trusted them to keep their businesses, families, and communities moving safely. McCarthy's mission remains grounded in the values that have guided them from the beginning: putting safety first, taking exceptional care of its customers, treating their teammates like family, giving back to the community, and operating with honesty and integrity. Looking back on 100 years, the McCarthy team is grateful for those who built this company before them, proud of the people who continue to build it today, and are committed to making sure the McCarthy name and the values behind it remain strong for the next 100 years.
