Small Business Snapshot: Marquis Art and Frame

What began as a picture framing hobby in a basement in Dallas, PA has since grown to become a creative hub of the Downtown Wilkes-Barre Arts District. Marquis Art and Frame has been serving the Greater Wyoming Valley for all of their custom framing and art needs since 1974. In addition to their high quality supplies and services, their creative picture frames can be found in many finer homes and businesses throughout Greater Wilkes-Barre.

The privately-owned art store offers quality products alongside a quality experience. “Most of our employees have been here for more than a decade. We are all familiar with our product and our customers. We have that loyalty,” says Amber Williams, Marketing Director at Marquis Art and Frame.

Marquis Art and Frame offers an extensive selection of picture frame mouldings in many styles like contemporary, formal elegance, traditional gold leaf, and Italian lacquer, all of which are displayed along the back wall of the store. “We have over 1,000 moldings to choose from, so we definitely have something in everybody’s price range, taste, or style for their home,” says Williams.

Additionally, Marquis has hundreds of ready-made frames in all of the standard sizes, and they produce well over 10,000 picture frames yearly. The talented picture frame designers can frame anything. “Most people don’t realize that they can bring in a child’s teddy bear and have it framed. We’ve even framed violins,” says Norene Mudzik, Art and Material Manager at Marquis Art and Frame.

The store sells a wide array of art materials, most of which can be sampled and tested right in the store. They also offer an extensive collection of fine art in their gallery, which houses hundreds of framed and unframed works of art available for purchase.

The prime location of their shop on Main Street in Wilkes-Barre allows for a lot of interaction between the many arts students attending the colleges and universities in Greater Wilkes-Barre, and the surrounding arts community. Marquis even hosts four art shows a year featuring the work of local artists.

Their next event, “Four Artists, Four Visions," will have a meet the artists reception during the Third Friday Art Walk on July 21st, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. and will feature local artists Alicia Lindgren, Mike Lindgren, Jane Kishbaugh and Elaine Engle. Marquis will also take part in the Small Business Christmas in July event on the 21st and will be offering a 20% discount on custom framing and art supplies.
