Small Business Snapshot: Tech42

The break/fix model of providing IT services involves the payment of an hourly fee to repair or replace broken or damaged equipment. Pickreign and his team decided to take a more innovative approach, which builds client relationships, provides preventive services, and saves businesses time and money.
“The first thing that we do is an assessment. We interview your staff. We look at your network. We try to do a half day engagement where we really dig into your business. Then, we come back with a proposal and it typically includes a flat monthly fee for all of your IT services, so that your bill doesn’t change each month. We even include the equipment in that price - all new computers, all new servers, unlimited. We also do periodic reviews and trainings, to really serve as that IT department, but we also provide it at a fixed fee, so that it’s not surprising from one month to the next,” explains Pickreign. “It really allows us to offer a higher level, higher quality service that we were never able to offer before.”
In addition to the development of their new business model, Tech42 has spent the last year dedicating time to standardization and documentation in the delivery of their services and the building of client networks. Two Tech42 employees have recently earned Project Management certifications, so that they can provide even more expertise to their customers.
“The customers that have embraced the new model are doing well. They have solid IT, very little problems in their networks, and they’re very happy. It takes a little bit of vision to get there, for them to say they’re going to invest in IT and in growing their business, but, Tech42 is a good place to do it,” says Pickreign.
