The Internship- Episode 2: Halloween

The Internship- Episode 2: Halloween

Halloween is one of my favorite holidays during the year. Most people would say the same thing because Halloween is the one day a year where you can dress up as anyone you want (within reason). For me it’s a day where I can pretend to be a different person and I act out their mannerisms and idiosyncrasies. In the past I’ve dressed up as Robin from Batman, Thor from the Avengers, a mad scientist, a ninja, a lumberjack, and Han Solo. I have always had fun saying the catchphrases of the characters or just being goofy in general. Plus, getting a large amount of candy is always a positive. My favorite candy is the Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups. I love the right combination between the peanut butter and chocolate.

There is definitely a distinction though between loving Halloween and doing cosplay. Halloween is the point in the year where you only dress up one or two days at the end of October. Cosplaying is being your favorite characters any other time of the year. Now, I don’t knock on anyone’s choice to cosplay because there are cool costumes out there that people put their heart and soul into creating. It just feels weird sometimes when I see my friend upload cosplay posts on Instagram when Halloween or a comic-con isn’t taking place soon. But who am I to judge?

This year, I had the opportunity to go to my internship in my Halloween costume. I was going as the Amazing Spider-Man, one of my two favorite superheroes. I had just finally gotten my compression shirt that would bring my costume together. I walked into the office to find some of my co-workers were also in the Halloween spirit. Megan, Lindsey, Ahmad, and Lauren were all dressed up as members of the Addams family. I don’t know anything about the Addams family, aside from their catchy theme song. But my co-workers’ costumes were still frightening in time for spooky season. Gabby and Matt didn’t want to dress up but that was fine because it is everyone’s choice if they want to participate. Megan also told me that she had an interview with a perspective intern for the next semester. I can only imagine their surprise when they show up and see their interviewer with black wig and Halloween makeup. It would definitely be an interesting interview in my book!

If costumes and candy were the scoops of ice cream, then the dog would be the cherry on top. As a mini-Halloween bonus, Ben brought in his dog dressed up as a bumblebee! It was probably the cutest thing in the world that I had seen so far this week. Celebrating Halloween while getting to write in costume and eat candy is one of the best experiences in the world. Speaking of candy, I must seek out the location of the Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups…
