Gilded Age Tour

Sunday, June 30, 2024 (12:00 AM - 3:00 PM) (EDT)

Description

The Luzerne County Historical Society announces that it will host a brand-new walking tour of Gilded Age buildings on the campus of Wilkes University, on Sunday June 30th, from 11am-3pm. The Gilded Age Tour will consist of five historic homes located on the campus of Wilkes University.  The homes are: Rifkin Hall (built 1875); Conyngham Hall (built 1897); Weckesser Hall (built 1914-1916); Kirby Hall (built 1873-1874); and Chase Hall (built 1917-1918).  Attendees will learn the history of the families who built and lived in these homes, while they view the stunning architecture in each.

Participants will register at the Wilkes Student Center and receive a tour map. They are then free to visit the homes in whatever order they like as they stroll through Wilkes University’s beautiful downtown campus.  Costumed Society volunteers at each location will give tours and detail the history and significance of each house.

The cost is $10 for LCHS members and $15 for non-members, children under 12 are free. The buildings will be open throughout the four-hour window, with no set start times. Reservations are not required, but strongly encouraged. For more information, questions or to make a reservation, call 570-823-6244 x3, or email reservations@luzernehistory.org.
