Light Up The Valley

Light Up The Valley

Thursday, June 15, 2023 (7:00 PM - 10:00 PM) (EDT)

Description

Join us to "Light Up the Valley" with a new free community event on June 15th on Public Square in Wilkes-Barre!

We are ridiculously excited for the very first Light Up the Valley event happening in Downtown Wilkes-Barre this Thursday, June 15th! The event will kick off right after Sunsets on SOMA wraps up in Midtown Village. Be sure to check out that event, which runs from 5-7PM.

Being that it is the first time for this event, we wanted to share some information on what you can expect for the evening. If you are someone who registered multiple attendees, we ask that you share this information with them. If you have any questions while at the event, please seek out a Chamber team member or volunteer. They will be wearing a Royal Blue shirt with the Light Up the Valley logo on the front. Please see attached for the Map and Agenda!

Parking:
Let’s start at the beginning…where do you park? Thankfully, our friends at Downtown Wilkes-Barre have got you covered with this informational web page that highlights all parking options for the evening. Check it out here: https://downtownwilkesbarre.org/explore/parking

Registration:
We will have two tables set up on Public Square for you to claim your “Light Up the Valley” bracelets. Please show this email or your confirmation email to verify your registration!

Food & Restaurant Contest:
We are encouraging all attendees to support local restaurants during this event. A few restaurants have created take-out only options to allow you to get food and get back to the bands in midtown and on Public Square. Restaurants will also have specialty-themed drinks for those who prefer to order from the regular menu and dine in. Participate in the social media contest for a chance to win a $50 gift card to participating downtown restaurants. (Check out the contest details here!)

Agenda for the Evening: Both Midtown and Public Square will be activated!
Attached you will find an event map and schedule. At 7PM Strawberry Jam will get the party started in Midtown Village accompanied by activities such as cornhole by NEPA Cornhole and axe throwing by PA Party Rental. SBC will also be present in Midtown Village with cold refreshments. (Alcoholic Beverages will need to remain in Midtown Village).

Also at 7:00PM, The Rice Crew will get us started on Public Square at the new bandshell until 8:00PM, then we will gather for a performance by Downtown Arts and the presentation of the Change Maker Awards. The party then resumes with The Husty Bros! While jamming out to our bands on Public Square, be sure to visit our vendors.

Other information:
The dress code for the evening is casual. You are encouraged to bring lawn chairs to use when you’re not dancing.

The event is FREE and open to the public, so tell your friends!! They’ll just miss out on this year's bracelet.

Looking forward to a fun-filled evening!

The whole community is invited to come out starting at 7 PM, following the Sunsets on South Main (SOMA) event in Midtown Village. You can join in on the fun on South Main Street and Public Square for this block-party-style event.
Attendees can enjoy live music at the brand-new band shell on Public Square, a variety of community vendors like Florology and Candelles, as well as activities like NEPA Cornhole & Axe Throwing by PA Party Rentals at this inaugural community event! When the sun goes down, we will also have a light display on the Square, to “Light Up The Valley.”
On the band shell stage that night, the event will feature the Change Maker Awards, which will be given to individuals who consistently strive to make the Wyoming Valley a brighter place, through their efforts in diversity, equity, and inclusion; volunteerism; or innovation, as well as additional efforts that improve the overall quality of life in the Wyoming Valley. Nominations for these awards were submitted by the community, in collaboration with media sponsor The Times Leader Media Group.
This event is free to attend and open to the public and is offered in partnership with the City of Wilkes-Barre and the Diamond City Partnership.

A signature “Light Up The Valley” bracelet is available to the first 300 individuals who complete a free registration! (All bracelets have been claimed)
