NEPACMS Presents: Dedications
Saturday, March 16, 2024 (7:00 PM - 9:00 PM) (EDT)
Description
The Schumann Piano Quintet, Borodin String Quartet No. 2, and Webern Langsamer Satz were all written as an expression of love for their wife: Clara Schumann is the dedicatee of the Piano Quintet and gave its first performance, the Second String Quartet was dedicated to Borodin’s wife as an anniversary gift 20 years after being engaged, and Webern was inspired to write the Langsamer Satz after falling in love with his future wife. Unlike the atonal and twelve-tone works Webern is most known for, the Langsamer Satz is a deeply romantic and sentimental work synonymous to the style of Schumann and Borodin.
