Second Saturday Family Hour: The Many Hats of Rose O’Neill

Saturday, September 9, 2023 (12:00 PM - 2:00 PM) (EDT)

Description

Rose O’Neill was an American artist, illustrator, sculptor, poet, novelist, suffragist, and entrepreneur of the early 20th century. She was the first woman illustrator for Puck magazine and created the first comic strip drawn by a woman. She was also the creator of the Kewpie Doll, an activist for women’s suffrage, and an accomplished artist, sculptor, and published author.

This Second Saturday Family Hour will celebrate the many hats worn by O’Neill. Come create your own comic strip and suffragette rosette. Jan Lokuta, of the Wilkes-Barre Riverfront Parks Committee, will present coloring sheets of landmarks in downtown Wilkes-Barre, including the Emerald Cottage, O’Neill’s childhood home!
