Working to meet the health and nutritional needs of women, children and families with information, education, and quality care, MFHS is currently seeking a part-time Interpreter/Assistant for our NFP program to work in our Admin location.



Job Summary:  

 

Interpreter/Assistant (IA) position is under the direct supervision of the NFP Director and functions to assist in the Nurse-Family Partnership (NFP) team by providing interpretative assistance related to home visitation and referrals, as well as performs essential administrative and clerical functions. The IA will assist NFP nurses in providing the NFP curriculum to Spanish speaking only clients and assist in building connections between NFP clients to community resources including health and social services, services to address the social determinants of health, and coordinate cross collaboration between MFHS programs and other providers. The position is part-time and must provide accommodation for special circumstances that will result in the need to flex hours and/or travel to client’s residence to attend NFP visits.


Duties & Responsibilities:


  • Assist in building strong professional relationships between the NFP nurse and Spanish-speaking only clients by interpreting NFP curriculum being delivered by the NFP nurse.
  • Facilitate client engagement, under the direction of the NFP nurse, in all aspects of care; communicate information to clients to facilitate informed decision-making and connect families to needed services including aiding with completion of applications and follow-up documentation.
  • Assist NFP supervisors with interpretation when performing initial contact of a referred Spanish-speaking only family to explain the NFP Program and to confirm interest in participating in the program.
  • Provides flexible hours to ensure in-person presence at client’s residence for initial visit and other intense case management visits, and for remote appointments via Teams for other visits when requested.
  • Performs program support tasks such as organizing forms, photocopies, assembles and maintains program materials and educational handouts. Performs general clerical functions such as typing material from typed or handwritten copy, preparing correspondence, reports and other documents, assisting with NFP event planning and participating in the same. This may also include translating documents from English into Spanish.
  • Utilizes computerized data entry equipment, as well as Excel and access database files to enter, store and/or retrieve information as requested or needed and summarizes data in preparation of standardized reports.
  • Compiles a variety of resources and may participate in community outreach activities.

OTHER DUTIES  

  • Maintains confidentiality and adheres to HIPAA regulations.
  • Attends and participates in program staff meetings as appropriate.  Will attend training meetings that are designed to maintain proficiency or increased knowledge.
  • Perform other duties necessary to support the MFHS programs administration.
  • Perform other duties necessary to support the provision of services


 

Qualifications/Requirements/Experience:


  • High School Diploma or G.E.D. required
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) required.
  • Must display a command of the Spanish language and ability to interpret communication from English to Spanish
  • Three (3) years safe driving experience
  • Demonstrates proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications (Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint)
  • Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
  • Ability and willingness to travel to attend NFP visits within the region for intensive case management for clients – on an as need bases.
  • Respond effectively and efficiently in high stress situations and deal with people under adverse circumstances.
