BRIEF INFORMATION ABOUT THE PRODUCTION:

Many scripts were submitted from area playwrights, then sent to certified adjudicators from the American Association of Community Theatres for their recommendations. Five scripts that received strong reviews were selected for production, with a creative team and cast of the playwright’s choosing. We’re proud to present those five in a single evening, three shows, the weekend of August 7 to August 9! This is a true farm to table theatre experience.

BIOGRAPHICAL INFO ON THOSE INVOLVED:

Tom Flannery

Tom has written and produced Fungie and The Quiet Men. Tom states, “Everything I love about Ireland is distilled in Fungie. I've never had so much fun writing anything. May he live forever.....”

Adam Myers

Adam has written and produced Where You Belong. This is Adam’s first play he has written as well as his first time directing a show. It is based rather loosely on his life and dips into the mental health of people who are disabled. Adam states, “I don't feel like there are a lot of actual ‘positive’ disability representations in theater.”

Michael K. Oritz

Michael has written and produced Go With The Flow. This show is based off of his own coming out story and centers around LGBTQIA+ themes. Michael says this show was cathartic for him to write. It is also a sort of a tribute to the man who eventually became his husband, as he was the man he met when he finally stood true to who he was. Michael states, “My hope is that when people see the way these actors take a subject that can be very unpleasant and uncomfortable, and shows us the progression of chaos to calmness, that you look inside yourself as to what you would take from this. If you are someone who is LGBTQIA+, and waiting to come out, or an ally, or someone who is waiting for their loved one to tell them, that grace is available! And remember, there’s the family you’re born into, and the family you choose! And even though everyone’s story progresses differently, a strong support system makes all the difference!”

Brenda Lynn Fager

Brenda has written and produced A Flight Behind. It is an adaptation of a short story that she wrote for the Writer’s Playground 10th Writing Challenge in August 2024. One element of the prompt was to include a wasp nest. She was frustrated as to how to include this in her story and in desperation began doing research into legends surrounding wasps and wasp nests. She then happened upon the W.A.S.P. (Women’s Airforce Service Pilots) program from WWII – and became enamored with these women and what they did. It just so happened that one of the characters from which they could choose for the prompt was a pilot…fortuitous! She says, “These women became the story.”
