Geisinger names Mark Pallis, D.O., chair of its Musculoskeletal Institute
DANVILLE, Pa. – Geisinger has removed the interim tag and named Mark Pallis, D.O., M.B.A., the chair of its Musculoskeletal Institute. Dr. Pallis joined Geisinger in 2019 and had been serving as the institute’s interim chair since last July.
“We conducted an extensive national search, but it was abundantly clear that the right person was already with us,” said Alfred Casale, M.D., Geisinger’s chief medical officer for surgical services. “Mark is an accomplished orthopaedic surgeon and a collaborative, results-oriented healthcare leader. As chair, he’ll continue his efforts that have brought substantive improvements in the institute’s leadership structure, academic mission and clinical operations so the institute team can best work with our employees and learners and, most of all, provide our patients the highest quality of care.”
During Dr. Pallis’s previous tenure as the Northeast regional director for the Musculoskeletal Institute, Geisinger completed construction of an 80,000-square-foot consolidated musculoskeletal clinic in Scranton and an $80 million clinic and surgery center in Pittston, and expanded the Northeast region’s orthopaedic training program. Under his leadership, 6 Geisinger hospitals earned recognition earlier this year as Blue Cross and Blue Shield Blue Distinction® Centers for Specialty Care for orthopaedic surgery.
Dr. Pallis is also a professor of orthopaedic surgery at the Geisinger School of Medicine and a fellow of the American Orthopaedic Association.
“It’s an honor to be named the chair of Geisinger's Musculoskeletal Institute, and I look forward to continuing the work to provide the best orthopaedic care to our communities,” Dr. Pallis said. “I have dedicated my career to helping patients, and I will continue that mission for this department to provide high-quality, patient-centered care to every patient we see."
A combat veteran and retired Army colonel, Dr. Pallis served in a variety of leadership roles in the Army, most notably as chair of orthopaedics and later deputy commander of William Beaumont Army Medical Center. He was also the orthopaedic surgery consultant to the U.S. Army surgeon general.
