Hapkido TaeKwonDo Institute Celebrates Grand Opening of New Kingston Location with Community Open House and Ribbon Cutting
KINGSTON, PA – June 2026 – The Hapkido TaeKwonDo Institute (HTKDI) is proud to announce the grand opening of its new facility at the Kingston Village Center, located at 738 Wyoming Avenue in Kingston, Pennsylvania. To celebrate this exciting milestone in the school’s 43-year history, they will host a community Open House and Ribbon Cutting Ceremony on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, from 11:30am to 2:30pm.
The public is invited to attend and experience firsthand the school's new training facility, meet instructors and students, and learn about the many programs offered by the Institute. The official Ribbon Cutting Ceremony will take place at 1:00 p.m.
Community members, aspiring students and their families, current students, local business owners, and supporters of the school are encouraged to attend.
Founded in 1983 by a Korean Grandmaster, the Hapkido TaeKwonDo Institute has served the Wyoming Valley community for more than four decades. The school was most recently owned and operated by Grandmaster Vince Sperduto until his retirement in 2024. Today, the school's legacy continues under the leadership of Master Pete Canavan, a longtime student and instructor who trained under Grandmaster Sperduto for over 30 years.
"We are excited to begin the next chapter in our school's 43-year history in Kingston," said Master Pete Canavan, owner of the Hapkido TaeKwonDo Institute. "When Grandmaster Sperduto decided to retire, I was honored to continue our tradition of helping keep residents of the Wyoming Valley safe. Our new location is perfect for our growing school, and I am excited to welcome the community to see what we have built. This event celebrates not only our growth, but also the positive impact martial arts can have on people of all ages. We look forward to continuing to serve our students and adding new Tai Chi and Hatha Yoga programs later this year."
Visitors attending the event will have the opportunity to:
• Tour the new facility
• Meet instructors and students
• Learn about Hapkido and TaeKwonDo programs
• Discover the school's children's character development curriculum
• Explore personal safety and self-defense training programs
• Learn about upcoming Tai Chi and Hatha Yoga classes
As part of the celebration, all new students who enroll will receive two free weeks of classes and a free martial arts uniform.
