Hoyt Library Presidential Event
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
In March 2025, the Hoyt Library proudly opened the Larry Cook Historian Center for Presidential Research, a community-based research center dedicated to preserving and exploring the history of the American Presidency. The Center is the first of its kind in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania to be housed within a public library and serves as a distinctive educational resource for the region.
The Presidential Center features archival materials, rotating exhibitions, and monthly lectures designed to engage the public, encourage civic understanding, and provide access to primary source research materials that ignite curiosity, conversation, and a deeper appreciation for American history.
The Hoyt Library is now honored to announce an exciting new addition to the Presidential Center: The Lincoln Gallery.
The Lincoln Gallery is a thoughtfully curated collection of original, rare, and one-of-a-kind Abraham Lincoln memorabilia, including historic photographs, paintings, artwork, sculptures, books, and other exclusive pieces. Together, these items tell the story of one of America’s most influential presidents and invite visitors to reflect on his enduring legacy.
“The Lincoln Gallery represents the very heart of what the Hoyt Library strives to be, a place where history comes alive and learning is shared with the entire community,” said Melissa Werner, Executive Director of the Hoyt Library. “This remarkable collection offers a rare opportunity for visitors of all ages to experience the legacy of Abraham Lincoln up close. We are deeply grateful to Irving and Julie Moy for their generosity and for helping us preserve and celebrate the story of one of our nation’s greatest leaders right here at the Hoyt Library.”
The collection has been generously donated by Irving and Julie Moy, Connecticut residents and lifelong collectors with a deep passion for Abraham Lincoln. The Moy’s dedication to preserving Lincoln’s history has resulted in a remarkable collection that is rarely available for public viewing, making this gallery a truly special and once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for the community.
As the 16th President of the United States, Lincoln guided the nation through the Civil War, preserved the Union, and laid the foundation for the abolition of slavery, leaving a legacy of leadership and resilience that continues to resonate today. The Lincoln Gallery offers visitors a chance to explore this pivotal chapter in American history through authentic and inspiring artifacts.
The Hoyt Library invites the public to attend a ribbon-cutting ceremony and open house on Saturday, February 28, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Guests will enjoy guided tours of the Lincoln Gallery and Presidential Center, meet donors Irving and Julie Moy, and have the opportunity to connect with Dr. Larry Cook, Curator and Resident Historian of the Presidential Center. Visitors are encouraged to attend and experience this significant expansion of the Center firsthand.
This special event celebrates history, generosity, and the continued growth of the Hoyt Library as a cultural and educational cornerstone of the community.
