For 60 years, Trion Industries has been a leader in merchandising solutions and manufacturing products for retail and vending such as hooks, trays, and merchandising systems. Today, Trion is respected not only nationally and internationally for its engineering, product innovation, and reliability, but also locally for their community and economic impact right here in Wilkes-Barre. 

The company began in 1965, when founder David “Bud” Thalenfeld had an idea to solve a common retail merchandising issue- how to make display hooks easier to move without being tilted up. This invention, the first straight-entry hook that could be inserted or removed from a pegboard, launched a business that would redefine retail merchandising. Along with two business partners, Bud founded Trion Industries in Brooklyn to bring this idea to life. From there, the business would quickly evolve, and after several relocations and expansions, its headquarters and primary manufacturing operations would settle in Wilkes-Barre in 1982.  

Since then, Trion has continued to evolve, all while remaining an anchor to our local economy. The company is one of the region’s largest private-sector manufacturers, providing hundreds of stable, high-quality jobs in Luzerne County. Many employees have decades of service, and they also collaborate with local schools, colleges, and workforce programs to encourage careers in advanced manufacturing and engineering. Additionally, Trion has supported numerous local initiatives, and their leadership team is known for giving back through both financial contributions and volunteer services.

Throughout this time, the company has remained guided by family leadership. This hands-on, values-driven leadership has allowed them to maintain a culture of innovation, quality, and integrity that has sustained its success.
